Press Release

Important Mandi Reform Just before ‘GRAM Kota
Will be a Major Attraction for Private Developers of Mandi Infrastructure

Jaipur, 20 May: Just a few days before the Kota based Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM) the Government of Rajasthan has announced a major boost to the promoters of Private Mandis in Rajasthan. As per the order issued by the Department of Agriculture on 10 May, those promoters who establish Private Mandis will now be able to retain 60% of the Market Fee for the first 3 Financial Years. Earlier, a promoter could retain only 20% of the Market Fee. In the next 2 Financial Years they will be able to retain 50% and thereafter 40% of the Market Fee.

Principal Secretary, Agriculture Marketing Department, Government of Rajasthan, Ms. Neelkamal Darbari said that the increase in the retention of Market Fee was a long standing demand of the promoters of Mandi infrastructure. In fact, as many as Rs.1,100 crores worth of MOUs for mandi infrastructure projects had been signed during ‘GRAM 2016’. With the new order these projects will get further expedited in terms of implementation.

Ms. Darbari added that with the private operators coming in, the produce of the farmers will be traded in a much faster manner and they will not have to wait for 3 to 4 days in the peak market season. The farmers will also stand to get benefit by way of better services since both the private and the Government Mandis will now be competing with each other.
