 Krishna devotee ‘Meera’ was brought to life in front of art lovers on the second day of ‘Katha Ballet’ festival organized by Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), the arts and cultural center of Jaipur. The colourful performance was presented under the choreography and direction of Pandit Harish Gangani of Delhi. The use of hymns, songs and dance techniques of Jaipur Kathak Gharana, poetry and chakra was a special attraction for the audience of Jaipur. Director General, JKK, Ms. Kiran Soni Gupta and Additional Director General (Administration), JKK, Mr. Lalit Bhagat were also present on the occasion.

The performance showcased various captivating scenes like – Meera Bai being fascinated by seeing Lord Krishna’s statue, Meera Bai’s marriage, Meera Bai leaving the palace her marriage and going to Krishna’s temple. Other than this, conspiracies to kill Meera Bai, poisoning, meeting Goswami in Vrindavan and becoming one with Krishna’s statue in Dwarka were all showcased during the dance performance.

During the program, beautiful and captivating songs and hymns like—‘Mai Main To Sapna Mein Parnaya Dinanath’, ‘Thane Kai-Kai Keh Samjhawan Mhara Sanwara Girdhari’, ‘Main Govind Ke Gun Va Ganwa’, ‘Sawre Ke Rang Meera Rachi’, ‘Holi Khelat Hai Girdhari’, ‘Kya Kya Kya Nahi Suna Ab Toh Darshan Do”, among others were also presented.

Main artistes of the performance included – Pandit Harish Gangani (Krishna), Ashani Mishra (Balika Meera), Akshita (Young Meera), Dev Saxaina (Rana Sanga), Rahul (Goswami). Other artistes who performed the dance included Nandini Khandelwal, Nanika Gangani, Poonam Bhalla, Manila, Sanchi, Anshika, Asmit and Deepak.

The role of special recorded music was also important in the program. It was composed by Hemant Panwar. Shivani and Mahendra were the singers. The supporting cast included Mohit Gangani (Tabla), Aashish Gangani (Pakhawaj), Rahul (Flute), Adnan (Sitar), Vikas Babu (Shehnai). Sound recording was of Himanshu and Arun. The costume design was by Harish Gangani as well.

Director General, JKK, Ms. Kiran Soni Gupta and Additional Director General (Administration), JKK, Mr. Lalit Bhagat were also present on the occasion.

It is worth mentioning that on the first day of the festival, ‘Aaradhya’ was based on the concept and choreography of Delhi’s Rachna Yadav. The four-day ‘Katha Ballet’ festival will present ‘Jayati Keshavam’ by Dr. Shashi Sankhla on Wednesday, December 4 at 6.30 pm. The entry to the festival is free for visitors.
