Indian Council of medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi has set up ‘A S Paintal Chair’ at IIHMR University for a period of 5 years. Senior Scientist, ICMR, Dr. Kiran Katoch has joined as a Chair. This was informed by Acting President, IIHMR-U, Dr. P R Sodani.

Dr. Sodani further said that the idea behind setting up a Chair is to promote and strengthen the research projects carried out by IIHMR University. Over the years, the University has created a brand image in health management research in the country as well as South East Asia Region. It has conducted over 500 research projects that have high impact and relevance on health policy and program strategies in India and abroad.

Dr. Katoch has served in various capacities in research projects. In the past, she had also served as a Director, National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases, Agra.

It is to be noted that ICMR is the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of Biomedical research. It is one of the oldest and largest medical research bodies in the world. The ICMR is funded by the Government of India through the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
