The 5 day Kathak Dance Festival ‘Nrityam’ concluded at Jawahar Kala Kendra. Organized in association with the Jaipur Kathak Kendra, the ‘Jal’ performance showed the audience the traditional aspects of Jaipur Kathak Gharana. The event was conceptualized by Principal, Jaipur Kathak Kendra,  Dr. Rekha Thakar.  Additional Director General of JKK, Mr. Furqan Khan was also present on the occasion.

The dance performance ‘Jal’ was presented in two parts. In the first part, a performance on Taal Dhamar on the traditional Kavitt ‘Dai Mare Badarwa Karat Shor’ was presented.  A performance on ‘Umad Ghummad Ghan Barse Boondi’  in Teen Taal and Raag Malhar was also given. In the first part of the performance Pt. Munna Laal Bhaat on Vocals and Harmonium, Pt. Hariharsharan Bhatt on Sitar, Padamshri Ustad Muinuddin Khan on Sarangi, Muzzafar Rehman on Tabla and Aishwarya Arya on Pakhawaj.

In the second part, the artistes highlighted the character of ‘Jal’ (Water) such as its beauty, silence, kindness, wonder, among others.  The Music Direction of this programme was done by Pt. Alok Bhatt and the rhythm co-ordination was taken care of by Pt. Praveen Arya.

The dance artistes included Rekha Sen, Shagun Sharma, Devanshi Dave, Kanika Kothari, Suhani Behal, Nikita Sharma, Ananya Dalvi, Chitransh Tanwar, Saumya and Himani. The light design was managed by Rajendra Sharma Raju and Dinesh Pradhan.

It is to be noted that Kathak performances of various Gharanas from all over India will be presented during ‘Nrityam – Gharane Kathak Ke’ till 20 August at Rangayan at 7 pm. ‘Nrityam’ is being organized in collaboration with North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Prayagraj. The entry to the event was free and open for all.
