On the occasion of ‘UN World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims’, tributes were paid to those who lost their lives in road accidents at Ravindra Manch Open Theatre. The event was organised by Muskaan Foundation of Jaipur in association with The Palace School Jaipur. Director General of Police Mr. Umesh Mishra was present as the Chief Guest for the event. Chairman, RSIC, Rajiv Arora; MLA, Kalicharan Saraf; Former Minister, Arun Chaturvedi; and Dr. Chandrabhan were also present. Trustee, Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety, Dr. Mridul Bhasin welcomed the guests. With the aim of remembering and supporting the victims’ families, the UN has kept the theme of this day ‘Remember’, ‘Act’ and ‘Support’.

This is the sixth year when  Muskaan Foundation commemorated this day with the resolve to spread the message of road safety to the masses. Around 300 children from more than 30 schools of the city participated in the programme. Children gave the message of caution and safety on the road through tribute songs, rap, folk music and mime. A talk was also organised where various aspects of road accidents and awareness for organ donation were brought to the fore through a discussion. Kailash Jangid, father of a road accident victim; Prominent Neurosurgeon, Dr. VD Sinha; Additional DCP, Traffic Police, Sayyed Mustafa Ali Zaidi; Transport Commisioner, KL Swami; and Bhawna Jagwani of Mohan Foundation participated. This talk was moderated by Dr. Mridul Bhasin. School children, family members, government officials, social workers and citizens participated in the programme.

It is worth noting that United Nations World Remembrance Day is commemorated every year on the third Sunday of November all over the world with the aim of learning from the memory of the people who were hurt and killed in road accidents and to pay tribute to them. This day is observed in 58 countries around the world, in which many people including educational organisations, social organisations and citizens participate.
