A 5 day Light Design workshop by the veteran light designer, Shymon PM began at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK). The workshop began with the resource person giving the participants an insight into the history of stage lighting. He showed the participants video clips of three different kinds of performances — Contemporary Dance, Kathak and a play to show the usage of light in different performances and settings. It is worth noting that this kind of a workshop is being held for the first time in JKK.
Over the course of 5 days, the participants will also be taught how to handle the instrument, how to design for a performance according to the venue, costume etc.
Shymon PM listed 5 essential things to keep in mind while designing light for theatre — Mood, Visibility, Atmosphere, Dimension and Rhythm. On the concluding day the participants will also be asked to design for a demo scene of theatre.
The workshop is being attended by participants from different backgrounds like theatre, film making and dance.
