For the first time ever, the Pink City witnessed a one-of-its-kind fashion show of the doctors, for the doctors, by the doctors. The show was organized as a part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of SMS Medical College. As many as 40 doctors walked the ramp at the New Academic block of SMS Medical College to showcase a unique collection of the brand, Soot by Sanjai.
The brand is the brainchild of Dr Sanjai Agrawal. After working in several corporate hospitals as an ENT surgeon, he decided to give vent to his artistic side and began designing garments that were a happy mix of form and function. Born in a family of clothiers and drapers, he has forever been exposed to fabrics, cuts, silhouettes and weaves . His personal tools were a keen sense of aesthetics and an eye for detail. For the Platinum Jubilee of SMS Medical College, Jaipur he has put together an apparel collection for doctors that will not only revamp his appearance but also write a balanced equation of style and function.
Talking about the thought behind his collection, Dr. Agrawal says: “A doctor also wants elegant yet simple apparels for life outside hospitals such as for conferences, festivals, weddings, etc. Even at work doctors want to appear friendly and approachable rather than stern and intimidating. Today the patient also looks for a happy ambience to recover. The garments have been created keening in mind this evolving scenario.”
In a year when the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of SMS Medical College coincide with Amrit Mahotsav of India’s Independence, Sanjai’s chosen medium – Soot- hand woven and hand spun cloth, becomes doubly relevant.
