‘Sangoshthi’ as a part of ‘Dhruvpad’ Festival

The second day of the 3 days Hindustani Classical Festival entitled ‘Dhruvpad’ began with a panel discussion ‘Sangoshthi’ at Jawahar Kala Kendra. Many renowned artistes namely Dr. Raj Khushiram, Dr. Ashwin Mahesh Dalvi, Padma Shri Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar, Ustad Annesuddin Khan Dagar, Ustad Nafeesuddin Khan Dagar, Pt. Mohan Shyam Sharma, Shri Shukhad Munde and Dr. Praveen Kumar Arya were part of the panel along with the moderator Shri Iqbal Khan. The ‘Sangoshthi’ was organized to give insights into the subject of ‘Dhruvpad in Present times’ and ‘Pakhawaj and Dhruvpad’.

The discussion commenced with the panelists shedding light on the present scenario of ‘Dhruvpad’ wherein they said that it is not only the responsibility of the Government to promote the Hindustani Classical Music but also of the corporate world. The fact that ‘Classical’ is often believed to be difficult is due to the lack of its exposure to people. They acknowledged the absence of faculty in schools and colleges for Dhruvpad, Pakhawaj etc. In fact, there is no institution for Dhruvpad in the country except in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The panelists also talked about the impatience of learning and performing on stage among the younger generations. Reality shows give them instant fame for a few days. Once this ends, it usually leads to depression among the children.

The differences in the audiences of India and abroad were also highlighted in terms of appreciation of art and culture. The event concluded with the panelists specifying about how a person at an individual level can contribute to flourishing the rich art and culture of the country by making small initiations like reaching on time for a programme.

It is to be recalled that ‘Sangoshthi’ is a special feature this year and has been organized for ‘Dhruvpad’ lovers.
