‘Wonderful Workshops’ set up stalls exhibiting various crafts and Rajasthani food

An initiative by Jaipur Virasat Foundation and Hotel Diggi Palace

 

Jaipur, 12 February: The week long ‘Wonderful Workshops’ concluded with a craft exhibition at Diggi Palace today. Products made by participants of the various workshops such as Miniature Painting, Indigo Dyeing, Cooking, Stitchery, among others were on display.

 

Stalls clad with colorful dupattas were set up exhibiting the creations of the various workshops. ‘Sparkling Surfaces’ displayed jewellery made out of glass, semi-precious stones and bright pigments.‘Mud Resistant Print and Indigo Dye’ displayed block printing on fabrics and garments using vegetable dyes and pigments such as indigo, pomegranate, turmeric, among others. ‘Stitches of the Desert’ displayed unique decorative stitchery typical of Rajasthan including cut work, gota patti, surface embellishment and gold printing and the making of braids and tassels. Similarly, ‘Fabulous Photography’ displayed photographs of unusual locations in and around Jaipur, including traditional craftsmanship, built heritage, rural life and people of the Pink City.

 

The exhibition ended on a high note with a feast of various tempting and scrumptious Indian dishes. The participants as well as visitors enjoyed the mirchi badas and gobhi pakoras, papads, sweet potatoes, Diggipuri ki Chaat, masala badam, phirni, lassi, among others.  These were made by the participants of the ‘Taste of India’ cookery workshop under the guidance of ladies of the Diggi family.

 

The ‘Wonderful Workshops’ is an initiative by Jaipur Virasat Foundation, Arts and Crafts Professional Frances Ronaldson and Hotel Diggi Palace. Started in 2005, it is a series of exceptional workshops led by local master craftsmen as well as well-known international artistes. The wonderful workshop program promotes heritage conservation, cross cultural collaboration and promotion of the dying arts and crafts of Rajasthan. Apart from specific sessions with the masters, the workshop also includes guided early morning walks in the old city, accompanied tours to the bazaars and expeditions to places of specific interest to the workshop subject.
