Press Release

Jaipur 9 December: As a reaction of the yesterday’s event the artists and the art gallery owners at the Jaipur Art Summit have expressed their gratitude for the swift action of the Jaipur Police and their assurance of security.

The artist of the painting ‘Anubhav’, Mr. Radha Binod Sharma said that the painting is like his child and the police have done a commendable job. He further added that he is an artist and believes in working in peace and he will surely come back to participate in the summit next year.

Leroy Parker, Professor Emeritus, San Jose State University, California, expressed his resentment for what happened yesterday at the summit. He said that human Body is sacred; and that it is one of the most beautiful things in the universe. However, it is good to know that the painting has been reinstalled.

Art is about freedom of expression. We are very happy that the necessary actions have been taken to make the artist feel secure. It is been reassured to us the artists present here from all over the world can create what comes to them from the inner space, said Ms. Jalpa H Vithalani, Creative Head & Director of Cosmic Heart Gallery, Mumbai.

Mithu Basu, Curator & Founder of Dolna, Mumbai believes that people can have different opinions but there is decorum and a place. Hence one could have raised their voice in a civilised manner. Art and artists are ambassadors of our country and they send signals of how far we have evolved. This is an international summit and therefore it is really sad to have the message of vandalism sent out in the world. Although after the installation of the painting it has been proved that we can rise above such situations. The Commissioner’s assurance of security to the artists has come as a big relief.
