Curtain Raiser Press Release

The second edition of ‘NinedotSquares – The Jaipur Design Show’ will witness numerous interesting activities this year for the visitors. To be held from 22 to 24 September, the event will include talks, workshops, installations, crafts trail, startup pavilion, exhibition, live art and craft, among others.

Apart from an exhibition showcasing handpicked designs and crafts, the event will witness live activities like rangoli making by award winning artist Rahul Swami. There will also be carpet weaving (also known as Singing the Rug) where one artist sings rhythmic chants that allows weavers to both remember patterns and reproduce them as frequently as required. Craftsmen will also be showcasing Indian traditions such as Kathputli, Pasmina Kani Shawl Weaving and Azrak Printing.

Another unique feature of the show this year will be the ‘Startup Pavilion’. In this section, young minds will get an opportunity to share their concept and products. The participants are Studio Decube (furniture & design); Tejas Soni Design (home décor products); Amitansh Thinking Studio (concrete products); Saswata Design Studio (products and lights); Studio Asao (ceramic pottery), among others.

The ‘Crafts Trail’ will essentially be a walk to discover and appreciate some lesser known and almost forgotten craft traditions of the walled city of Jaipur. During the walk one will see how various crafts gave its structure to the city as well as its urban character. The walk will give a glimpse into varied crafts ranging from performing arts, metal craft, food crafts, painting traditions, among others.

Besides there will also be ‘Chai & Chat Sessions’  on various design subjects with experts like Vibhor Sogani,  Ayush Kasliwal, Mitch Crites, Aman Nath, Sandeep Sangaru, Alex Davis, Lekha Washington, Arzan Khambatta and Meghna Ajit, among others.

Since installations are a crucial part of exhibiting modern and innovative designs, the event will incorporate installations by artistes and designers like Navayu, Pawan Bhatt, Hansraj, Pranav Vashisht Megha Bhatnagar and Gaurav Bhatnagar.

To bring the focus on sustainable practices in construction, bamboo will be a major highlight this year. It will projected as a viable alternate construction material.

It is to be recalled that NinedotSquares is the brainchild of Ritu Khandelwal and Shalini Agarwal. It will be held from September 22 to 24 at Hotel Diggi Palace.
