As a part of its weekend cultural activities, Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) witnessed an energetic Bharatnatyam recital entitled ‘Nrittpriya’ on 24 November 2017.  Renowned artiste, Dr. Gyanendra Dutt Bajpayee, who is a disciple of Padmabhushan Guru Saroja Vaidyanath, performed at the event. ‘Nrittpriya’ essentially means lover of dance and the movements in the performance were dedicated to the Lord of Dance – Lord Shiva.

Gyanendra Dutt along with the other artistes began the evening with ‘Namaskaram’ to the Lord through Pushpanjali. This was followed by spirited performances of Durga Stuti, Kautuvam and Alarippu. The evening reached its pinnacle as the audience witnessed – ‘Varnam: Samiyai Azhait Todi Va’ and the Lord Shiva inspired ‘Keertanam’ performance of ‘Bho Shambho’. The artistes went on to perform ‘Padam’ depicting Nayaka’s call for Lord Kartikay and several students also presented ‘Panchali Shabdam’. The evening concluded with a rhythmic performance of ‘Tillana’.

The artiste was accompanied by Lalitha Ganesh on Nattuvangam, D. Badrinarayanan on Violin, G. Sudheer Kumar on Mridangam and Gaurav Singh on Vocals. The artiste and dancers performed under the direction of Ms. Nikita Mudgal.
