As a part of the ongoing ‘Online Learning – Children’s Summer Festival, there was a performing arts session on ‘Folk Dance’ by dancer, Ms. Anita Pradhan. The session gave an introduction to the folk culture and heritage of Rajasthan. It also focused on feet and hand movements, facial expressions and other basic techniques of folk dance.

The session began with a brief introduction to the folk culture and heritage of Rajasthan. The artiste said that the heritage, lifestyle, customs, traditions, tales of brave warriors as well as folk music of Rajasthan is famous worldwide. The folk music from each region of Rajasthan has a different folk style with its unique capabilities. Like Kuchamani Khayal, Bikaneri Rammat, Phoolon ki Holi of Bharatpur, Chari of Kishangarh, Shekhawati Chang, Gair dance are just to name a few.

The session proceeded to showcase the various type of feet movements, hand movements and actions used in performing a folk dance. Apart from this, the viewers also had a brief introduction to the facial expressions and rhythm followed during dance. She then demonstrated the step-by-step Ghoomar choreography of the song, ‘Runak Jhunak Paayal Baaje’. Similarly, she also shared other valuable information related to making one’s dance more beautiful and graceful.

Tomorrow’s Programme, Friday, 5 June
Tomorrow on 5 June,  the viewers will witness the second day of ‘Folk Dance’ session by dancer, Ms. Anita Pradhan from 5 pm to 6 pm. The session will begin with a brief revision of the previous day’s lesson. Following this, the viewers will follow along with the dancer for a ‘Ghoomar’ dance choreography for the song, ‘Runak Jhunak Payal Baaje’.
