Press Release
Rajsamand MP, Diya Kumari, has sent an email to Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman demanding reduction of GST on import of marble. She has suggested this as a solution to the crisis faced by the marble industry due to the Open General License (OGL) on the import of mined marble.
MP Diya Kumari said that the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan is a leader in the production of marble in India and is the mainstay. However, this business has been affected due –deepening of the marble mines, increase in royalty and electricity rates, GST, increased cost price, increased prices of petrol and diesel as well as more availability and increased use of artificial marble tiles. Similarly, COVID-19 and the lockdown has led to the shutdown of the industry. In such a situation, marble businessmen are expecting an ambitious plan from the Central and State Government. This would include an economic package to revive this industry.
The MP said that in this industry, the licensing system for the import of Dimensional Stone was effective before OGL. The local marble industry has been badly affected due to increased imports due to OGL.
