Help in Suffering (HIS), a leading animal welfare organisation in Jaipur, is celebrating 44 years of continuous service to the city’s animals and public health. The Mission of HIS, is to provide care, comfort, compassion, and quality veterinary treatment to animals in need, while engaging the community to end the suffering of abandoned and free-roaming animals. On this occasion, IAS, Ravi Jain; Former Chairman of SEBI and Founder and Chief Patron of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, DR Mehta and Managing Trustee of HIS, Timmie Kumar were also present. HIS volunteers and staff were felicitated during the program.
On the occasion, IAS, Ravi Jain said that the work that Help in Suffering has been doing for so many years to improve the lives of the voiceless animals of the city is quite commendable. Animals are also a part of our society. We find many animals around us who need our care, love and support. I am happy that today our society is aware and is ready to help the voiceless. He also inspired the youth of the city to come forward to help as many voiceless as possible.
Adding to the sentiment, DR Mehta said that there are very few organizations which help the voiceless in such a comprehensive and pure manner. HIS’s prompt, compassionate and professional service is greatly appreciated. He further said that youth are a great strength of this organization. He appreciated the staff and volunteers of HIS for their commendable work.
With its crucial initiatives like Rescue & Rehoming, HIS rescues, treats and cares for 6,000 animals annually (dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, camels, equines, bovines), with 500 animals under its care at any time. It has streamlined the adoption process, with counselling, training, and ongoing support, ensuring responsible pet ownership. With the initiative of Animal Birth Control (ABC) & Vaccination, HIS has significantly reduced human dog-bite cases in Jaipur from 7.2 per thousand in 1998 to 2.2 per thousand today. Over 150,000 dogs have benefited from the program, with 3,500 dogs undergoing treatment annually. Another initiative, ‘Camel Welfare’, extends aid to the most impoverished village communities lacking access to veterinary services for their working camels. Annually, HIS treats 5,000 camels and conducts camps at Jaisalmer and Pushkar.
Managing Trustee of HIS, Timmie Kumar informed that HIS is also in the process of building a state-of-the-art animal care centre, which will include a modern animal hospital equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities and equipment. It will also serve as a hub for education and training for veterinarians, volunteers, and individuals passionate about animal welfare.
HIS’s impact extends beyond the numbers, positively influencing the lives of both animals and humans with reduced rabies risk through vaccination programs, cleaner and safer public spaces through human stray dog management, alleviated animal suffering by providing essential care and shelter, supporting local communities through the Camel Welfare Project and Fostering responsible pet ownership through adoption programs.

Her efforts have earned her recognition and she was awarded the Pride of Jaipur award in 2012 and an accolade for excellence in social work from Nexzen. Her involvement enriches HIS, ensuring its continued expansion and impact in Jaipur’s animal protection and welfare landscape.
