One of the major festivals of Kerala, Onam Sadhya, was celebrated with great pomp in Jaipur on 29 August. In a first, the event was organised in Jaipur at the iconic South Indian restaurant Banana Leaf. The guests were served around 24 different savoury to sweet vegetarian dishes on a banana leaf. It included a variety of dishes like Rice, Kerala Paratha, Rasam, Sambhar, Kootu Curry, Upperi, Kal Dosa, Olan, Avial, etc. Apart from Ada Payasam and Parippu Payasam in sweets, a variety of chutneys and pickles were also included in the menu. The guests were seen donning traditional Onam festival attire to ramp up the celebration.

Commenting on the celebration, Partner, Indus Foods, Nandan Honawar said, “We are delighted to bring the taste and culture of South India to the Jaipurites. This year, Jaipurites got a special opportunity to delve into the legacy of Kerala and relish the traditional cuisine in their own city.” Mr Honawar further said that at Banana Leaf, special arrangements were made to resonate the menu as well as the ambience with the spirit of Onam, so that the guests could have an unforgettable experience.

The essence of this festivity lies in the word ‘Sadhya,’ that translates to an opulent ‘feast’. The festival is known to flourish in a large variety of traditional vegetarian Malayalam cuisine.
