Press Release

As a part of its Morning Raag series, Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) is organizing a unique programme this Sunday – ‘Dhruvpad Sarod’. The ancient form of Indian classical music – Dhruvpad — is rarely heard on Sarod along with Pakhawaj as an accompaniment. The performance will be rendered by Debanjan Bhattacharjee from Kolkata and Roman Das will be accompanying on Pakhawaj. The programme will be held on 7 January (Sunday) at 8 am at Madhyavarti.

Dhruvpad Sarod has been conceptualized and exclusively performed globally by Debanjan Bhattacharjee. It comprises of Dhruvpad style compositions in Dhruvpad Taal accompanied solely by Pakhawaj. The Dhruvpad style of playing involves various special features like Saat Sangat, Lar-Lapet, Ladi etc in Dhruvpad Taal like Dhamar, Choutal, Sooltal and is thus completely different from a regular Sarod recital.

It is worth noting that Mr. Bhattacharjee has performed in over 18 countries and 53 Indian cities across 23 states of India. The entry to the programme on Sunday at JKK is free and open to all.
