Help in Suffering organized community celebration on World Camel Day

Press Release

Help in Suffering (HIS) organized a special celebration at the Camel Rescue Center in Bassi on the occasion of World Camel Day on Sunday, June 22. Through this program, the camel welfare work done by HIS for the last two decades was shown. Also, important issues like the rapidly decreasing number of camels in India were also highlighted. Many camel owners from the surrounding villages participated in this program.

Various  types of activities were organized, including a traditional puppet show, in which messages related to camel health and care were presented in an entertaining form. Educational material was distributed to camel owners in the local language, so that they could get practical information about camel care. At the same time, the efforts of the owners who took good care of camels were appreciated by giving them awards. Along with this, there was a community meal for everyone, which gave them an opportunity to interact with each other.

Since the year 2001, HIS has provided health care to more than 80,000 camels through mobile clinics and treatment camps. From Jaipur to remote villages and the Pushkar Camel Fair, this organization has been treating 5,000-7,000 camels annually across Rajasthan. On this occasion, a veterinarian from HIS said, “When we started, most camel owners used to see their animals only as a working tool. Now we see that the owners are taking better care of their camels and seeking help quickly in case of a problem.”

Help in Suffering has been committed to the holistic welfare of camels for the past two decades. Services provided by HIS include veterinary treatment for common ailments, replacing harmful wooden nose pegs  with safer plastic ones , and installing reflectors on camel carts to prevent road accidents at night. Additionally, HIS regularly provides training to camel owners on proper animal care techniques and also operates India’s first dedicated camel rescue center.
