Press Release

A 10-year-old quadri-amputee boy from Hyderabad, Madhu Kumar has been given a new lease of life with artificial limbs by the Jaipur Foot Rehabilitation Center. Youngest of four siblings, Madhu lost all his limbs due to an electric burn from a high tension wire in 2019. Belonging to a lower-income family, Madhu was flown out to Jaipur with the help of a generous philanthropist where he was fitted with artificial limbs at the center. A process that would have taken months in another centre was completed in a short-span of mere 2.5 days. The rehabilitation process was done completely free of charge by the organisation. This was informed by Director, Jaipur Foot Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Pooja Mukul.

Dr. Mukul further said “When you hear the word ‘disabled’ people immediately think of someone who cannot walk or talk or do things that most of us take for granted. But I believe, there is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more than his or her limitations. I see my patients and in this story, Madhu as heroes, individuals who have an indomitable spirit, who find the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.“

The rehabilitation process began with Madhu being fitted for his left limb which was amputated above the knee. This was done first so that he could be made to stand up to be measured and fitted for the other leg. He was then fitted for both his upper limbs. Once the procedure was completed, Madhu stood for the first time in 1.5 years. After the initial discomfort, he slowly gained confidence and balance to use his new limbs.
