254th Foundation Day of Sawai Madhopur to be celebrated

Jaipur, 16 January: The second edition of the two-day Sawai Madhour Utsav will be celebrated with verve and vigour on 19 and 20 January. This will be the 254th Foundation Day of Sawai Madhopur. There will be a melange of events ranging from ‘Maha Aarti’, ‘Shobha Yatra’, ‘Kavi Sammelan’, among others. This was informed by the MLA, Sawai Madhopur, Princess Diya Kumari today.

The Festival will begin with Maha Aarti on 19 January at 9 am. It will be held at the renowned Trinetra Ganesh Mandir. This will be followed by offering of floral tribute to the statue of Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II at Nagar Parishad Parisar.

Shoba Yatra from Dandveer Balaji to Raj Bagh Maidan will be held next from 11 am to 1 pm. This royal procession will witness decorated elephants, horses and camels. Traditional rural sports such as Rassa Kasi, Lemon Spoon Race, Turban tying, among others will also be held at Raj Bagh. Football and Kabaddi matches at Police Line will also be another attraction. The evenings will witness cultural programmes and a Kavi Sammelan at Indira Maidan.

The second day will witness a Yoga Shivir from 8 am to 9 am at the Indira Maidan.  An exhibition which will continue till 23 January will also be launched on this day. There will also be traditional rural sports for women such as musical chair, Rassa Kassi, Goli Chamach, Matka Race and Kho Kho at Raj Bagh. The Utsav will conclude with an award function and felicitation ceremony from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Sawai Madhopur Utsav is the celebration of the foundation day of the city of Sawai Madhopur on 19th January the day, on which the city of Sawai Madhopur was established by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I in 1763. Since then, every year, the day is celebrated as the foundation day by the locals of the city.

The 254th foundation day on 19th January 2017 will be the second edition of the new era in the celebrations that look off last year. Collector and Mela Vikas Samiti Sawai Madhopur in collaboration with Gunijankhana: Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Jaipur Museum Society headed by Princess Diya Kumari, MLA, Sawai Madhopur, a descendant of Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I, has decided to take the celebrations on to the world tourism map. The Utsav will be an annual feature.
