The healthcare industry is growing briskly in India. It is becoming one of India’s largest sectors – both in terms of revenue and employment. This has been possible owing to the growth in the range of services being offered as well as increasing expenditure by public as well private players. This was stated today by the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), Mr. Atul Sobti at the 5th edition of the IIHMR University Annual Convocation in Jaipur. He was the Chief Guest at the ceremony.

Mr. Sobti further said that there is general consensus that healthcare is one of the sunrise sectors of the country. He told the passing out students that they as new entrants would be able to script the future of this sector. Hospitals are expected to constitute more than half of the Indian healthcare market dominated by the private sector. The impact of this industry will have a cascading impact and lead to a spurt in the local manufacturing of healthcare machines & devices under the objective of ‘Make in India’, which are presently dependent largely on imports, he said.

Mr. Sobti gave a 5-point programme to the students which, among others, urged them to follow their passion, take pride in what they do, and have a balanced work-life schedule.

In his message to the students, the Guest of Honour of the ceremony, Principal and Controller of SMS Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sudhir Bhandari said that a Convocation is one of the milestones in life which one never forget. He advised the students to take up their responsibilities and give back to society as outlined in the healthcare sector. He appreciated the faculty and the staff of IIHMR University.

The economy in India, he said, is looking up and growing fast, being fifth largest economy in the world. Technology will be the main driver of service delivery and development.
