Curtain Raiser Press Release

Performances conceptualized by Pt. Girdhari Maharaj and Pt. Alok Bhatt

Jaipur, 14 August: A 2 day Malhar festival entitled ‘Meghemduramambram’ will be held at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) on 17 and 18 August. There will be two performances which are ‘Geet Govind’ on Thursday (17 August)  and ‘Meghsundaram’ on Friday (18 August).

The performance of ‘Geet Govind’ is directed and conceptualized by Pt. Alok Bhatt.  It will feature artist Pt. Dhananjay Moreshwar. Similarly, the performance ‘Meghsundaram’ has been directed and conceptualized by Pt. Girdhari Maharaj.

Geet Govind is a work composed by the 12th-century Indian poet, Jayadeva. It describes the relationship between Krishna and the gopis (female cow herders) of Vrindavana, and Radha, in particular. Rajasthani folk songs and classical music along with picture presentations in the background depicting this work will be rendered on the occasion.

‘Meghsundram’ will feature a Kathak ballet also themed on Lord Krishna and Malhar. It is worth noting that Pt. Girdhari Maharaj is an extraordinary singer, dancer, poet and musician. He has taken Kathak of Jaipur Gharana to new heights by adhering to the traditional style and technique of Kathak and adding various concepts of innovations in this classical form.

The programme will be held at the Rangayan Auditorium at 6:30 pm on both the days. The entry to the event is complimentary.
